When I first started doing paper-piecing I didn't have a large variety of fabrics to choose from... but that all changed one day that I happened to visit to the Salvation Army. Sitting there amid the pillows and tablecloths were 3 HUGE bags full of partially-used fat quarters and fabric scraps! It was my luckiest thrift store find ever! I've used bits of fabric in just about every color... but there were some fabrics that came with the bunch that I honestly didn't know what to do with. And that included this lovely cow print.
But what better stash-busting project is there than a pieced pot-holder? It was actually quite fun to search through my stash for coordinating colors and I didn't need to use much material. I fussy-cut the center squares and then took the opportunity to practice quilting "in the ditch." I sewed the binding on by hand, which was also good practice for some of the other projects I'm hoping to finish this year.
These turned out quite nicely. ...And I still have a whole stack of random, I-don't-know-what-else-to-do-with-it fabrics that will probably also get the pot-holder treatment in the near future!
